East Harling 163 - 9 (9) lost to Bungay A 198 - 10 (24) by 35 runs. Lucas Fettes Norfolk League Division 3.
Harling started their 2009 league season, just as they finished last season, losing away at Bungay. The only difference being the jump of 3 divisions due to the mass migration to the Alliance - or was it rape and pillage by the Alliance (personal view).
Bungay won the toss and chose to bat, getting away to a great start with openers Porter and Cudden putting on 93 for the first wicket, before Cudden was bowled by Steve Fowler for 33 in the 21st over. Fowler also bowled Porter for a hard hit 60 as he and fellow change bowler Andrew Macrow shared 5 wickets.David Fowler then bowled 4 tight overs picking up a wicket and only conceding 7 runs, this spell helping opening bowlers Michael Pill and Stuart Ayton, who had felt the brunt of Porter's hitting, to return to get a little revenge taking the last 4 wickets to ensure maximum bowling points. Bowling M Pill 1 - 23, S Ayton 3 - 48, S Fowler 2 - 49, A Macrow 3- 44 and D Fowler 1 - 7.
Harling were soon put on the back foot slumping to 35 - 3 from15 overs.Rob Free 2, Andrew Macrow 15 both caught behind off slow motion nicks and Ross Pickerill bowled 6.
Kevin Seymour 22 and Barry Wells 17 tried to put some impetus into the Harling reply but only debutant Adam Howe with a fine 49 managed to get on top of the bowling, just failing to get a well deserved half century to go with his 2 catches.
Harling's hopes of winning then fell faster than the temperature, although they did just manage to bat the full 45 overs to end on 163 - 9. Defeat by 35 runs. Harling man of the match Adam Howe, hopefully Elveden's loss will be Harling's gain.
