East Harling 140 - 8 beat Bungay A 72 -10 by 68 runs Lucas Fettes Norfolk League Division 3.
Having won the toss Harling chose to bat first on what looked to be another good hard wicket, unfortunately, the batsmen tried very hard to disprove this view, with Stuart Hilton patting a full toss to mid wicket and then Kevin Seymour getting one high up the bat and providing a simple caught and bowled, 6 -2 in the 5th over. Ross Pickerill joined Rob Free in the highest stand of the day taking the score to 56 before Free 28 nicked one to the wicketkeeper, within 3 overs both Barry Wells and Adam Howe had departed without troubling the scorer 56 - 5. Ross then found a willing ally in fellow left hander Andrew Macrow, in a stand of 40 before Pickerill was bowled for 38. Macrow and Michael Pill both well schooled in the art of lower order batting, took the score to 125 with a mix of quick singles, good placement and the odd lusty blow before Macrow was bowled for 26 which including his first 6 for at least 10 years high over mid-wicket, he says he hit one on tour in Kent when he took 22 off an over. He also managed to field out there later and couldn't believe how far he'd hit it! Mutley and his apprentice scamperer David Fowler then added a further 12 runs before Pill made the mistake of hitting the ball too hard and was very well caught on the cover boundary, Harling finishing on a disappointing 140 - 8 which really looked to be 50 short of what was needed.
Enter Macrow the bowler, taking the wicket of Cudden in his second over then having Cushing caught by Adam Howe for 14 in his 6th over. Stuart Ayton then bowled Smith for 9 and in his next over bowled both McPhillie and Chang for 0, before Macrow bowled an unusually becalmed Tim Porter off his leg for 8 in a match winning spell of 12 -8 -11 -3, reducing Bungay to 34 - 6 having lost 4 wickets without adding to their score. Apart from a little resistance from Haines 14 not out, the tail hardly wagged, with Michael Pill picking up 2 wickets with one each for Stuart Hilton and Paul Hoyte, who surprised the batsman with a straight one, having bowled 6 wides and kept Barry Wells on his toes with the rest, as Bungay were literally bowled out for 72 with the stumps having been hit 9 times.
Victory for Harling by 68 runs.
Bowling A Macrow 12 -8 -11 -3, S Ayton 12 -4 -31 -3, M Pill 5.3 -2 -11 -2, P Hoyte 3 -0 -8 -1, S Hilton 2 -0 -5 -1
Man of the match Andrew Macrow for an excellent spell of bowling coupled with a very important 26. |
