East Harling 202 - 7 beat Horsford B 181 - 8 by 21 runs Lucas Fettes Norfolk League Division 3
Another hot sunny day saw Harling win the toss and elect to bat against a Horsford side much changed from the one bowled out for 57 three weeks ago.As usual Stuart Hilton showed his intent taking 6 off the first over, and with Rob Free put on 38 for the first wicket before Hilton was caught off Gilbert, unfortunately Free was then caught behind off B Hunt for 16.
Kevin Seymour and Jon Wyatt then set about repairing the damage with some well scampered singles until Seymour was run out by a direct hit for 13. Skipper Barry Wells was content to play second fiddle in a fourth wicket stand of 112 as Wyatt hit the Horsford attack to all parts of the ground and beyond, mixing lusty blows and soft hands to great effect, sadly falling caught behind for 97, in the 42 over.3 short of a maiden ton for Harling. 15 runs were added as 3 wickets fell in 3 overs including the run out of scamperer in chief Michael Pill, but the race to 200 and the fifth batting point was successful.
Any ideas of a repeat collapse were soon dispelled as Horsford raced to 59 from 8 overs, with E Weber taking a particular liking to Andrew Macrow's length forcing him out of the attack after only 3 overs costing 35. The left arm pairing of Michael Pill and Steve Fowler then set about restoring calm and reducing the run rate, Pill eventually picking up the wickets of Weber, caught by David Fowler for 33 from 26 balls, and bowling fellow opener Cuffley for 26. Unfortunately Pill stayed on for 7 overs when his usual allocation is 6, this was to have repurcussions later.
Steve Fowler and Stuart Hilton then bowled a crucial 12 over spell in which they only conceded 30 runs slowing the scoring rate , and with Hilton taking the wicket of Lincoln. An excellent fourth wicket stand between A Hunt and C Weber, both very capable young batsmen looked to be taking Horsford to victory, until Weber was unluckily lbw to Hilton for 23 to the only ball that kept low all day. This proved to be the turning point for Harling as Hilton then removed Hunt caught & bowled for 24 to finish with figures of 12-1-32-3.
During this period Michael Pill chased a ball down to third man only to callapse in a heap with cramp in both calfs, Ali Hoyte attended with magic spray but this was no good, so he was helped back to the Rudd room where what appeared to be a massage was administered by Cheryl Ayton, amazing how good our VPs are, orange juice with added salt was taken and he was shoved back out onto the pitch and promptly dropped a dolley at mid - off. Worse than that he couldn't get back on to have a go at the bunnies. Bet he only bowls 6 in his first spell next week! Unless he enjoyed the massage and Ali's demonstration of what stretches he should try. (All views of JB, so Ali, if you want to sue, sue him, not the club!)
Andrew Macrow returned to join Stuart Ayton to ensure that Horsford fell 21 short of their target with Macriow claiming 2-16 in his second spell partially repairing the damage inflicted by Weber earlier, and the newly married Ayton improving as his spell went on, to finish with 1-40 as the later batsmen showed a lack of ambition.
Man of the match Jon Wyatt for his excellent 97.
