East Harling 172 - 6 (24) beat Eaton 115 - 9 (5) by 57 runs in Lucas Fettes Norfolk League Division 3.

On a warm breezy afternoon Harling lost the toss but were surprisingly then asked to bat first on a good batting track. Rob Free was this week partnered by Ross Jones, who after missing all of last season struggled with his timing, tip tip tap tap , used the pad well. They saw off the new ball attack only for Jones to be dismissed in slow bowler Trett's first over for 13,going back and hitting across the line and missing Chris was in no doubt and his finger was in the air the second the ball hit the pad. Rob Free then became Trett's second victim being deceived by the flight and edging into his stumps for 20. It got worse as Kevin Seymour dollied a catch to mid-off leaving Harling 48 - 3 from 17 overs.Skipper Barry Wells then joined Ross Pickerill in the fightback putting on 57 before Wells became Tretts third wicket for 30 and then Pickerill was bowled by Trett for 44, Adam Howe looked to be heading for another good score until he found the only man on the legside boundary 125 -6. Harling were then rescued by the wise heads of Michael Pill and Andrew Macrow, with a series of "well judged" singles, this really was fun to watch especially when they stopped for a chat mid wicket, the bowler shied and missed. With the aid of the odd lusty blow they put on 47 in the last 8 overs to reach a reasonable 172 - 6.

Eaton's reply began steadily and openers Brackenbury and G Butcher appeared to be untroubled, and unhurried and zzzzzzzzz putting on 50 before Butcher was run out for 14, Brackenbury was then caught of Steve Fowler for 30.zzzzzz after I woke up wickets started to fall fairly regularly as the frailties of the Eaton batting were exposed. Michael Pill came back to claim 2 both bowled, one of which aimed a slog to midwicket every ball but hit it everywhere but .. he also took an excellent catch as Rob Free took 2 wickets in 3 overs before being taken off for Stuart Ayton to come as Steve put it "with a pocketful of carrots"but D Trett survived the final over with Eaton finishing on 115 - 9. Best of the bowling M Pill 2 - 19 S Ayton 2 - 18 S Fowler 2 - 17 R Free 2 - 5.
Man of the Match Ross Pickerill.
