Great Melton B 107 - 10 v East Harling 161 - 5 Lucas Fettes Norfolk League Division 3 East Harling won by 54 runs.

Only three weeks after beating Melton at home Harling made the return trip to the U.E.A. to find a hard wicket with a greenish top. Tails failed yet again and Harling were invited to bat first. As C Free was away partying in Lincolnshire I was able to stand in and give a much more unprofessional service, which included having to rescind a no ball call when I realised the wicketkeeper was standing up(and upsetting the scorer), apart from that I was quite happy just saying "not out".

Stuart Hilton and Rob Free found the opening attack of McCurley and Wardale pretty lively both getting a lot of bounce, Free was dropped at point in Wardale's first over and then Hilton flicked one off his legs straight to square leg in his second, with the score on 14, Henry Wanchoo having 2 bites at catching it. Kevin Seymour and Free then shared a stand of 43 in 16 overs without looking entirely comfortable against the pace or the slower inswing of Wanchoo, who eventuall bowled Free for 26. With Wanchoo now bowling in tandem with fellow veteran Leo De Salis, Harling struggled to 78 - 5 from 30 overs as Wanchoo dismissed Seymour for 27 and De Salis removing Ross Pickerill 3 and Adam Howe 1, all 3 to catches in the ring as they tried to hit over the top. Respectability came with an unbeaten 6th wicket stand of 83 between skipper Barry Wells 44 not out and Matthew Jubb 32 not out taking advantage of some loose bowling as 73 runs were added in the final 11 overs, possibly helped by Wardale not coming back due to illness, although he carried on fielding.

The batsmen felt that although the wicket was hard the ball didn't come through resulting in a lot of balls going in the air, this theory was borne out as both Wanchoo and Lachowycz struggled against the opening attack of Andrew Macrow and Michael Pill, only scoring 31 from the first 13 overs. A double change saw the introduction of seamer Stuart Ayton and off-spinner Stuart Hilton, with Hilton having Wanchoo caught at the third attempt by Rob Free at gulley, for his first catch of the season. Ayton then removed both Gristwood and Cook as they tried to increase the tempo before Hilton claimed the prize wicket of Lachowycz caught and bowled for a very good 47 out of 87 from 31 overs. The game then swung firmly in Harling's favour as Ayton bowled left hander Moxon with one that seamed back into him, Hilton had Hayward caught by Macrow and then ran out Allen with a direct hit from mid-wicket, as 3 wickets fell in 4 overs. Macrow and Pill then returned to mop up the tail within in 4 overs as Melton were bowled out for 107 in the 41st over, 2 wickets in 2 balls leaving paggy on a hat-trick next week. Victory for Harling by 54 runs.

Bowling: A Macrow 8.3 -1 -24 -2, M Pill 8 -4 -13 -1, S Ayton 12 -0 -33 -3, S Hilton 12 -1 -33 -3.

Man of the Match Barry Wells for his 44 not out which ensured that Harling had a defendable total...
