East Harling 233-5 beat Rackheath 105-10 by 128 runs. Lucas Fettes Norfolk League Division 2
With the final pitch preparation interrupted by a heavy shower, the start was delayed and the game shortened to 40 overs.Having won the toss Rackheath had little hesitation in asking Harling to bat first on a damp green wicket, opening bowler Williams soon found there was still plenty of bounce but tended to bowl a little too short ok far too short, although he did get the wicket of Ross Pickerill 1 surprising him with a full length ball which stopped and was skied back to him for an easy caught and bowled, 8-1. Somebody will see the full fury of the Free/Pickerill openining partnership ... I hope, before the season ends.Kevin Seymour 26 joined Rob Free in an enterprising stand of 55 in only eleven overs, before being caught off Knight. Matt Jubb started cautiously, taking 17 balls to get off the mark, as Free moved on to a well deserved half-century before being third out for 56, out of 98 in the 23rd over. Jubbs acceleration started with Stuart Hilton's arrival at the crease, 78 were added in the next 11 overs as they both batted aggressively until Hilton was caught and bowled by Banham, who then saw Barry Wells drag his first ball from wide outside off stump into his stumps. 176-4. Banham had to wait another over before bowling his hat-trick ball, this was repelled by Jubb and 57 more runs were added in 6 overs, Jubb finishing on 87 not out and Steve Fisher 13 not out as Harling post an impressive 233-5.
To have a chance of winning openers Symonds and Scarborough needed to get off to a good start, veteran opener Symonds ( son of Eddy) despatched Andrew Macrow's first ball for 4, but apart from this not much happened until Symonds top edged a Macrow delivery into his face and retired hurt in the fifth over, Scarborough was then bowled by Steve Fowler in the next over, and no further runs were added until Patrick launched successive sixes in Fowler's fifth over, 5 overs later he was unnecessarily run out for 17 as he took on Matt Jubbs arm and lost. The game had now moved into Harling's grasp as solid defence was ruined by rash attacking shots. Stuart Ayton was the bowler who benefitted most from this strategy, bowling straight he picked up the wickets of M Rymarz 23 bowled, the recovered Symonds 13 well caught down the legside by wicketkeeper Wells and Jo-Jo who skied one to Jubb at extra cover. Michael Pill got his name on the scorecard with the wicket of C Rymarz 0 before McClaren became Ayton's fourth scalp, also caught by Jubb. Stuart Hilton, replacing Pill was immediately hit for 6 by Knight, but didn't take long to take the final 2 wickets as the ten man visitors were dismissed for 105 in the 36th over to give Harling a comfortable 128 run victory. A far better bowling performance than last week as all the bowlers found a much better length. Sorry no bowling figures forgot to jot them down before I returned the book to Julie.
Man of the Match Matt Jubb for his runs, his 3 catches and a run out, not forgetting his many slides, get the vanish out again Dorothy!
With Bystanders and Cringleford both victims of the weather, only Belton improved their average, leaving us still in pole position. |
